Antique Day a Success
Our antiques event at the Swadlincote Town Hall today was a great success with over £150 being raised to help towards the Bretby Art Pottery Showroom project. A large proportion of the money came from one of the stallholders who donated half of their raffle income with other money being kind donations. All the money raised will help with the Showroom project and contribute towards taking it to the next stage
Unfortunately, Charles Hanson was not able to make it due a last-minute notification that he was required for an episode of Bargain Hunt instead a professional valuer, Sonia Jackson, from Hanson’s was on hand and kept busy throughout the day. We didn’t hear any screams of delight, so perhaps no hidden treasures were unearthed but there where pleasant surprises for some and it is always good to find out a little more information about that item which has been part of the family for a long time.
News of the event reached BBC East Midlands Today with a crew being sent out to first visit the Bretby Art Pottery Showroom then Sharpes Pottery Museum to film items of Bretby Ware and the painting in café that was once part of the Showroom. They finished off at the Antiques Event where Don Redfern gave an interview about his time at the pottery and all clips were shown on the 6pm news.
BBC Radio Derby also gave their support along with the Burton Mail. Read the Burton Mail article here.
