Arkwright Society Shortlisted For Prestigious National Heritage Award

The Arkwright Society’s recent restoration of Sir Richard Arkwright’s historic Grade I listed ‘Building 17’ at Cromford Mills has been shortlisted for the Historic England's Angel Awards 2016.

After taking ownership of the Cromford Mill site in the 1980s the Arkwright Society have slowly been renovating the range of buildings and bringing the site which is in Derwent Valley World Heritage Site back to life.

The latest phase of works have been undertaken to building 17, the largest mill building on site and after completion the building now houses a state of the art gateway building on the ground floor and commercial office space on the upper floors. Being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund who assisted with a major grant of £4 million the conversion has created several new jobs on-site along with increasing the tourism to Derbyshire and the World Heritage Site.

Voting is still open and you can vote for the project until the 12th of October at by visiting the Historic England's Angel Awards site here with the winners being announced on the 31st of October.
