Derbyshire's wonderful buildings in peril - which would you save?
The Derby Evening Telegraph is asking the people of Derby to decide on which of its historic buildings at risk should be saved. They should be saving THEM ALL! Derbyshire has already lost too many of its historic buildings and all of those featured have been ignored for far too long. Local Authorities need to utilise the powers that they possess to force the owners of these buildings to undertake repairs instead of standing back and letting the buildings be destroyed. We have all seen far too often the route that this dereliction takes with rooves collapsing, vandalism allowing entry and then fire prompting demolition. Groups like The Heritage Trust need more support and more funding needs to be available to prevent a buildings decay, surely it would make sense to spend a little more on urgent repairs rather than millions on restorations?
