The work to transform the Grade I listed Buxton Crescent into a 79 bedroom spa hotel is finally underway. The development which is costing £50 million is being funded by a HLF grant of £23.8 million with other contributions from the High Peak Borough Council, D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership, Historic England and the developers Buxton Crescent Hotel and Thermal Spa Co Ltd.
The HLF is supporting the project with one of its biggest grants. Jonathan Platt, Head of HLF East Midlands, said: “It’s great to see this visionary project come to fruition. There have been some unique and challenging risks that have meant that this point has been a long time coming, but reaching this significant milestone is a credit to the hard work of the project team and partners. Special thanks must go to National Lottery players for making our investment possible.”
