Our latest project is the Grade II Bretby Art Pottery Showroom

Located in Swadlincote, Derbyshire the Showroom was once part of Tooth & Co who manufactured Bretby Art Pottery and the building is now the last physical link to the former works and an important part of Swadlincote’s industrial heritage.

Many years of neglect has left this building in a very poor state of repair with damage from water ingress, vandalism and theft. Much of the historic fabric has now gone and what remains is deteriorating every day with the stage now reached where urgent repairs are needed to prevent total loss.

The Heritage Trust® is a registered charity that is based in Derbyshire and is run by an enthusiastic group of volunteers.

The Trust was formed for the purpose of rescuing heritage buildings that have fallen into disrepair and are suffering from neglect in the East Midlands and the surrounding counties. By forming partnerships with local communities, businesses and volunteer groups, buildings that are at risk can be transformed and given a sustainable future. Often these buildings will then act as a catalyst for urban regeneration, bringing new employment and financial benefits to the surrounding area.

Being a registered charity allows The Heritage Trust to acquire funding from the Heritage Lottery, the Architectural Heritage Fund and other funding providers.  This funding is then utilised to explore viable new uses for redundant and neglected buildings with the aim of discovering long-term sustainable solutions.

The Heritage Trust is registered charity which is run by volunteers that helps to save historic buildings at risk. Our work will often involve us taking ownership of the building ourselves or by providing help and advice to others who have their own building rescue project.

Being staffed by volunteers The Heritage Trust relies on donations and fundraising to cover running costs and to help towards match funding requirements. We will always welcome any ideas from those who wish to fundraise on our behalf and we have several options available for those who just wish to make a straight forward small monetary donation. If it is a larger sum or if you would like to find more about leaving a funds via a legacy, then please read more.

We hold events and publish the latest news on social media and in our quarterly newsletter

Events that are held raise funds to cover the costs of running the Trust and help towards our projects.

One event that is planned for this year (2018) we will be opening the doors of the Bretby Showroom for Heritage Open Days weekend.

We are also holding a photography competition with prizes to include the winners and runners-up photos being published in our 2019 calendar.

Making a difference to the plight of our historic buildings-at-risk is one of the goals of the Trust

We are also keen to expand the knowledge of heritage and open up opportunities for others be involved.

Our trustees are all volunteers, with many of them being professionals in the historic environment and though working hard without financial gain they all agree that they are rewarded in many other ways.

We are always looking for people who share our passion and have a little time to give.
